In plain English

AI search optimisation improves how your public information can be found, interpreted, and referenced. It combines sound SEO with clear answers, credible evidence, consistent business details, and appropriate crawler access.

Who this is for

Brands whose customers research products, compare providers, or ask detailed questions in search and AI assistants.

What we can work on

Discovery & crawler review

Review public-page access, robots directives, indexing controls, sitemaps, and potential hosting restrictions. Search access is assessed separately from model training.

Answers with substance

Structure useful definitions, explanations, comparisons, and questions around real customer needs. Keep important information available as text.

Brand & source clarity

Improve author information, business details, service descriptions, references, and links between relevant pages.

Observation & iteration

Define a repeatable sample of customer questions, document observed answers and citations, and review what the evidence suggests next.

How the work is scoped

  1. Discover: review the business context, available evidence, and the problem to solve.
  2. Prioritise: agree on deliverables, dependencies, budget, and a review period.
  3. Deliver: implement the agreed work and document the decisions.
  4. Review: assess the outputs and performance, then adjust the next steps.

Agree the boundaries first.

Includes a public-information review, page-level answer recommendations, evidence checks, and a documented observation method. Platform integrations, model training, private knowledge systems, and automated monitoring require separate agreement. Deliverables concern your information and its accessibility; citations remain platform decisions.

What your brief should include

  • Customer research questions and the decisions behind them.
  • Approved service facts, author details, and supporting sources.
  • Priority pages and known access or indexing restrictions.
  • Platforms, target markets, and an agreed observation sample.

How this can look in practice

These scenarios explain the method. They are hypothetical examples, not client case studies or performance claims.

Illustrative scenario

an unclear comparison

The situation
A hypothetical service provider receives comparison questions, but its website explains features without showing who each option suits.
Possible work
Prepare an answer structure covering audience, differences, limitations, and next steps. Link each material claim to approved product information or an identified expert contribution.
What to review
Check that a reader can understand the comparison without prior brand knowledge. Record sampled answers as observations, not proof of improved visibility.

Illustrative scenario

inconsistent business information

The situation
A hypothetical business uses different service descriptions across its website, author biographies, and established public profiles.
Possible work
Create a verified fact sheet, identify material inconsistencies, and prioritise corrections on pages the business controls. Connect service explanations with relevant evidence and responsible authors.
What to review
Confirm factual consistency and readable public text, then repeat the agreed question sample. This is an illustrative workflow, not a reported outcome.

How delivery is checked

  • Important answers state their assumptions, source basis, scope, and responsible reviewer.
  • Access recommendations distinguish public search discovery from the business’s training preferences.
  • Observations record the question, platform, date, relevant context, and cited URL when present.

Adapting the work to your market

Questions from the USA, UK, Australia, and New Zealand can describe different buying situations. Agree on country context, spelling, currency, delivery coverage, and service limitations in the observation brief. Regional answers should use verified business facts rather than imply local premises, staff, or availability that the business does not have.

What progress looks like

Track observed query samples, referral traffic where identifiable, content improvements, and qualified enquiries. AI answers vary by platform, time, query, and context; sampled observations are not a complete market-share measure.

Guidance behind the approach

Recommendations should be reviewed as platforms change. Search access is not a guarantee of inclusion.

Common questions

Can you make us appear in every AI Overview?

No. Google, ChatGPT, Claude, and other platforms choose whether and how to reference a site. We improve access and content quality, and measure observed outcomes without guaranteeing citations.

Is there special schema for AI Overviews?

Google says there is no additional schema or special AI text file required for AI Overviews or AI Mode. Standard SEO foundations and accurate structured data remain useful.

Does allowing search bots also allow AI training?

Search and training controls differ. OpenAI separates OAI-SearchBot from GPTBot, and Anthropic documents separate search, user-request, and training crawlers. A review should preserve your intended training preferences.
